Elena grew up above her family's joinery workshop in Bologna, where she learned to read a drawing by running a hand along a finished edge. She studied architecture in Milan and spent four years with Studio Peregalli before joining NORR ATELIER in 2012. She became a partner in 2016 and opened the Milan studio the following year.
Her interiors are built from a small number of materials, chosen for how they age: lime plaster, oiled oak, brushed brass, wool, local stone. She works closely with a circle of makers across Italy and Portugal, and draws much of the furniture herself.
She is a committed cook and an equally committed critic of restaurant lighting. The Milan studio's kitchen table is the practice's unofficial second meeting room.
